A Black Man Goes to Glenn Beck's Rally

To hear the mainstream media tell the story, you would have thought that I, a black man, had walked into a hornet’s nest of racists when I decided to attend Glenn Beck's "Restoring Honor" rally. In reality, my experience was the complete opposite.

Instead of hooded Klansman frothing with hate and venom, I made dozens of new Facebook friends and gained a hundred Twitter followers.

One lady from New Jersey asked me if I was "afraid" because I was one of the "few blacks in attendance?"

I appreciate seeing your experiences at the Restoring Honor Rally. I too believe we must all work together to regain our true freedom that the founding fathers had in mind when they wrote the Constitution. Thanks for giving your perspective.

I too had the privilage to be a part of Restoring Honor on 8/28 and then to see teh counter-rally by the Rev.

All I can say is it was a stark contrast between love and hate.

Dear Jerome,

Your description of the 8.28 Restoring Honor rally really captures the remarkable events of that morning. I was there, too, and also waited (next to the reflecting pool) for about 24 hours. As I was leaving I happened to cross the street towards the capitol and was met with snarling contempt by a guy in the crosswalk. Sharpton's marchers were actually kind of scary. It's too bad I had to encounter them after the other rally. I hope more American blacks will come to recognize their mistake in trusting and following guys like Sharpton who are only using them.
